USE System Engineering (part of TKH Group N.V. and both from Haaksbergen, The Netherlands) signed an intent agreement with Twente Airport on July 19th 2017 for USE to establish an ” AGL Experience Centre” in spring 2018 within shelter B520 of the former military base.
In addition to shelter B520, the facility is also to be the test location for the Contactless Energy & Data Distribution (CEDD®) AGL technology.
CEDD is an innovative airfield lighting system (Airfield Ground Lighting – AGL) to power and control LED runway, taxiway and apron lighting.

By the end of this year 2017, the transformation of shelter B520 (Airside) for USE Systems Engineering will begin at the Technology Base and completed in a similar way to some of the previous shelters already completed for other high technology organisations.
Usable and sustainable transformation technology is based upon meeting climate change, conservation and water treatment needs.
Technology Base …. a high tech live test environment
USE System Engineering is a provider of technology solutions for harsh and safety critical environments. The company will show and provide experience of their high tech technology in the transformed shelter and on the airfield.
At the Technology Base, this experience will bring the technologies together with presentations and meeting rooms which, when facilitated in the shelter, offers the ability to test products in an existing airfield environment.
The Demonstration and Experience Centre will realize a unique facility, where customers of the company will be able to observe and to discuss the developments in CEDD® AGL and other airfield technologies.
A training facility is also being set up to train, among other things, designers, planners and engineers in all aspects of AGL technology, primarily focusing on the further development and rollout of CEDD®AGL Technology.
High tech technology
Hans van der Kuil (Director of USE) says he deliberately chose Twente Airport, as the perfect setting and location to demonstrate CEDD technology.
He says “At Twente Airport, we know that we will work in an environment where innovation and high tech technology are paramount and where there are excellent opportunities to test important facilities on an operational airport which is essential for us. Of course, both Twente and USE (like the whole TKH Group) are pleased that we can further stimulate Twente as a high technology development region”.
USE System Engineering will also install CEDD equipment outside the new shelter on some of the airside operational area’s & facilities in the coming years and a number of CEDD® AGL systems are being built to monitor, measure and feed the results 24/7 from the shelter.
USE System Engineering has already implemented national and international projects.
CEDD® technology and applications has been specially developed and defined for reliable energy and data analysis, control and monitoring of airport ground lighting systems.
AGL is a visual tool used for all weather operations by pilots of aircraft for efficient and safe landings.
In addition to power & control, CEDD® technology for airports provides a built-in ‘asset management system’ for efficient and cost-effective maintenance functions, planning and operation of the AGL system.
“Fly, establish and test, are the pillars of Twente Airport and now with the arrival of USE, we are adding a new success” says Eddy van Hijum, Deputy Economist, Province of Overijssel.
“It is nice to find that this innovative company sees the development opportunities that is on offer to them from & by the airfield, which also involves both the available space and the presence of specialist knowledge in the immediate area, including the recognition that it is extremely important for such companies to have the opportunity to further develop and thereby strengthen the regional economy”.
